It is crucial for English and without Tense you cannot imagine a sentence. So, here I would like to describe 12 English Tenses with Examples.
What is Tense?
Tense is a letin words. The simple meaning is Time, what time? It is work time. So, Tense means Time. Every sentence has a specific time such as ‘ I go to bed ‘ in this sentence a time mentioned. Basic English Tenses with Examples
There are 3 types of Tense in grammar. For example –
- Present Tense
- Past Tense and
- Future Tense
Now, I am going to share step by step explanation of Tense structure – Tense Basic Class For Everyone
Present Tense Structure & Examples
There are 4 categories of Present Tense such as Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, Present Perfect Continuous. In the below of this part I shared all structures with example. One important thing is that auxiliary verb or helping verb before starting I will share which is the auxiliary verb of Present Tense ( am/ is /are /have/has )
Present Simple Tense
- P = Sub ( Singular ) + verb1+ s/ es / ies , for example – I go / He goes.
- N = Sub ( Sing )+ does not+ verb1, such as – They do not go / He does not go.
- I = Does + sub ( sing )+ V1? – Do we go? / Does he go?
Present Continuous Tense
- P = Sub + am/ is / are + verb 1 + ing ( I am going / He is going/ They are going )
- N = Sub + am / is / are + not + V1 +ing ( I am not going/ He is not going)
- I = am/ is /are + sub + V1 + ing ? ( Are we going? / Is he going? )
Present Perfect Tense
- P = Sub + have / has + V3( past participle) Such as, I have gone / He has gone
- N = Sub + have / has + not + V3 ( I have not gone/ He has not gone )
- I = Have / Has + sub + V3 ? ( Have I gone? / Has he gone?)
Present Perfect Continuous Tense
- P = Sub + have been/ has been+ V1 + ing ( I have been going/ He has been going )
- N = Sub + have/ has + not + been + V1 + ing ( I have not been going/ He has not been going)
- I = Have/ Has + sub + been+ V1 + ing ? ( Have I been going? / Has he been going? )

Past Tense Structure & Examples
Past Tense has 4 categories also. Now I would like to describe these 4 types with structure and example from my own experience. I always try to make my article in easy way for your betterment. In this article I am sharing all basic things about Tense. So, let’s begin the Past Tense in the below –
Past Simple Tense
- P = Sub + verb2, such as ( I played / He played)
- N = Sub + did not+ V1 ( I did not play / He did not play)
- I = Did + sub + V1? ( Did I went? / Did he went?)
Past Continuous Tense
- P = Sub + was/ were+ V1 + ing ( I was going/ We were going )
- N = Sub + was/ were+ not + V1 + ing ( I was not going/ We were not going )
- I = Was / Were+ sub + V1 + ing? ( Was I going ? / Were we going ?)
Past Perfect Tense
- P = Sub + had + V3 ( I had gone / He had gone )
- N = Sub + had + not + V3 ( I had not gone / He had not gone)
- I = Had + sub + V3 ? ( Had I gone? / Had he gone ? )
Past Perfect Continuous Tense
- P = Sub + had been+ V1 + ing ( I had been going/ He had been going)
- N = Sub + had + not+ been+ V1 + ing ( I had not been going/ He had not been going )
- I = Had +sub+ been+ V1 + ing ? ( Had I been going? / Had he been going? )
Future Tense Structure & Examples
The action of the verb indicating any future time is called future tense. Future Tense has four types as well. In this part I am going to provide all Future Tenses and their structure in details. Also I will try to give reasonable example of my own idea. So, let’s see what is the topic about Future Tense.
Future Simple Tense
- P = Sub( I/ We)+ shall + V1 ( I shall go )
- Sub ( He/She/ It / You/They )+ will+ V1 ( He will go )
- N = Sub + shall/ will+ not + V1 ( I shall not go / He will not go )
- I = Shall/ Will+ sub + V1 ( Shall I go? / Will he go? )
Future Continuous Tense
- P= Sub + shall be / will be+ V1 + ing ( I shall be going/ He will be sleeping)
- N= Sub+ shall /will+ not + be + V1 + ing ( I shall not be going/ He will not be playing)
- I = Shall/ Will+ sub + be + V1 + ing ? ( Shall I be going? / Will he be going? )
Future Perfect Tense
- P= Sub + shall have / will have + V3 ( I shall have gone/ He will have slept)
- N= Sub + shall/ will+ not + have + V3 ( I shall not have gone/He will not have gone)
- I = Shall/Will+ sub + have+ V3 ?( Shall I have gone?/ Will he have gone?)
Future Perfect Continuous Tense
- P = Sub + shall have been/ will have been+ V1 + ing ( I shall have been going/ He will have been going)
- N = Sub + shall/ will+ not + have been+ V1 + ing ( I shall not have been going/ He will not have been going)
- I = Shall / Will+ sub + have been+ V1 + ing ( Shall I have been going? / Will he have been going?
